Well, the year 2013 is now underway and we have surely entered the “Brave New World” that has followed the election of 2012. From my personal point of view, and I might add, unfortunately, this year and the ones following are beginning to appear that they will turn out to be quite similar to the preceding period.

Border Silver

There is a sizable area that straddles the U.S.-Mexico border where native silver occurs in shear zones at relatively shallow depths. The district is in the low but rugged Pajarito Mountains, the highest point of which is 5,838 feet at Cerro Ruido, on the Mexican side. The deceptively rough terrain forced the first border surveyors, in 1855, to kill several mules and horses because of their injuries.

Since 2005, a group representing a handful of Oregon and Washington mining organizations, centered around the Eastern Oregon Mining Association (EOMA) and the Waldo Mining District (WMD), have been actively fighting the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) over their then new “700PM Suction Dredge Mining Permit.”
