The Lost Silver Triangle of the Sierra Madre—Conclusion: Tayopa, Guaynopa, and Guaynopita
Lieutenant Henry O. Flipper might well have been correct about the “Santa Fe de Rodríquez” being the name of what is now called Guaynopa. However, an Indian named Agustín de la Cruz, who was associated with Cristóbal Rodríquez, is credited with discovering the mine in 1741. It is probable that the Spanish settlement had indeed been found because of its rather extensive ruins.
Tucson Show Marketing
Normally we do not cover gem and mineral shows, but this one is a little different. The Tucson (Arizona) Gem and Mineral show is the sales source for so many small mining operations, I felt I had to address this show and its possibilities for the small miner.
Picks & Pans: Miner Finds Heart of Gold
We started planning for this trip last year, after we left Ganes Creek, Alaska, and headed back to civilization. I found 4.75 ounces of very nice nuggets and the group had a total of 47.47 ounces for the week.
The Gold Hill and Iowa Mine, Boise County, Idaho: 1863-1895
In August 1862, prospectors from Walla Walla, Washington, led by George Grimes, discovered gold near the present townsite of Pioneer City. Grimes was killed by Indians shortly after the discovery. The remaining argonauts retreated to Walla Walla. On October 10, 1862, 52 men returned to Grimes Creek. They built a fort and several cabins before continuing their quest for gold.
