Hog Mountain Mining, Past and Future

When you think of gold mining, you probably don’t consider Alabama to be the place to find your treasure. However, in the early 1800s, jobs were few, and the smell of gold drew men into the search. History records 13 districts in which mining was done at all stages—from pick and shovel, to an area like Hog Mountain.Platinum Placers and Nuggets
Sometimes a placer miner will find small bits and nuggets of metal associated with gold and other heavy minerals in his concentrates, which exhibits a silver-gray color rather than the normal tones of gold.

BLM Runs Check on Assay Services
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently conducted a multi-year study of sixty-five assay laboratories to determine the accuracy of their testing procedures. The laboratories, all located in North America, were provided with ore samples of known concentrations without benefit of identifying the source as BLM. Payment was rendered for the service provided.
