One of the first pieces of prospecting equipment I acquired was a really nice little aluminum backpack sluice. I’ve used it for some time now and have always been impressed with how well it works for keeping the fine wire gold. But ever since I got on the Internet and started looking around for prospecting stuff, I have been toying with the idea of making a flexible conduit sluice.
The Goldhill Mining District
Following the initial discovery of gold in North Carolina in 1799 on the Reed Plantation in Cabarrus County, gold was found in about 1842 in Rowan County at a locality that soon acquired the name Gold Hill.

The Carson City Mint
In the early 1860s, the rich mines of Virginia City and the surrounding area were pouring forth millions of dollars in gold and silver each year. Additional mines located at White Pine, Aurora, Humboldt and other Nevada locations were also yielding millions in gold and silver.
Critical Minerals: Tungsten
Because tungsten minerals are heavy, exploration can be done using stream sediment samples. Prospectors looking for gold have found scheelite or wolframite in their placer concentrates, and in some cases this has led them to make important tungsten finds.
