Two Arrested in Alleged Mining Investment Scheme
The US attorney’s office indicted Diana Flaherty, of Las Vegas, and Michael Gardiner, of San Diego, in connection with a securities fraud scheme. According the indictment, Flaherty, and her husband Robert (now deceased), had managed Phoenix Metals USA II. Gardiner is identified as a company shareholder.
Highbanking for Gold
Pumps can be set up quite a distance away horizontally from the sluice, even hundreds of feet. It will work so long as there is sufficient water at the source where the pump is located. Vertical distance is more of a problem than horizontal distance; 30 to 40 feet is the maximum vertical climb for most pumps.
I-147 Before Montana Supreme Court
A group supporting a ballot measure to overturn a ban on using cyanide in certain mines has told the Montana Supreme Court it should throw out a lawsuit against Initiative 147. Facts surrounding the claims of I-147 opponents must be sorted out before the high court can consider the legal challenge, said proponents who call themselves Miners, Merchants and Montanans for Jobs and Economic Opportunity.
PLP and MMAC Update
The current administration is receptive; we believe the time is ripe to push for a return to reasonable regulations and to restore mining to a priority for public lands as long as some new crisis doesn’t take precedent.
Nevada Counties, Towns Get Forest Service Grants
The Forest Service is issuing $69,630 in small grants to several rural communities in Nevada to help diversify their economies and wean them from dependency on natural resources.
