The future is still good for anyone wishing to use a metal detector to nuggetshoot residual and hillside eluvial placers. Since these placers are easily overlooked, the key to opening the door marked "success" is the willingness to do research.

The Treasure Hawk mine was operated by "Crazy Eddie" Bounsall from 1972 until 1988. He died in 1994, and I purchased the Treasure Hawk claims from his wife Betty in 1996.

Resolution Copper Mine, Arizona

The Resolution copper mine is near Superior, Arizona (population 3,500), along the west side of the Pinal Mountains in central Arizona, 64 miles east of downtown Phoenix. The region receives about 16 inches of rain per year, enough to support chaparral vegetation.

Quick Thinking & Rescue Devices Save Two Lives

MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) reports that a pair of miners used oxygen-supplying self-rescue devices to save two of their co-workers who were in danger of suffocation at the Ohio Valley Coal Company's Powhatan No.6 mine near St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Oil Seeps in Northern California

Indians used asphalt from oil seeps in California for caulking boats and other objects long before the white man arrived. Spaniards noted seeps as early as 1542, and the Portola expedition in 1769 used oil for wagon axles and as a fuel. Spaniards also used crude stills for obtaining lamp oil for use in the missions.
